The incumbent seat will be absent in March 2012’s municipal elections in Milton, since council-woman Deanna Duby made an early announcement that she will not be seeking re-election in the next campaign. Duby sees it as a potentially exciting race, encouraging people to run for office since there is no incumbent to deal with, and introducing a new face to council with a fresh perspective and energy.

An important decision before provincial elections this fall, Ontario Health Minister Deb Matthews has formally approved an important hospital expansion project in the city of Milton, ON. The expansion, which has been an important electoral issue for local residents, has been covered extensively by print companies and media around Milton. The expansion is supported by over 40,000 resident signatures, who would like to see improved health facilities in the city.
Provincial elections for the province of Ontario are scheduled to take place October 6 and campaigns in the Milton area are already underway. Participants in the event consisted of stroke, polio and brain injury survivors who walked, strolled or rolled throughout the mall to raise money for stroke recovery, education and support programs for survivors and their families. This year’s Walk n’ Roll Ambassador, Paul Rosen, 2006 Olympic Hockey Gold Medalist, made appearances to support the various registered teams in the walk-a-thon.
More than 40 companies and hundreds of volunteers and print companies are collaborating to make Canada Blooms a success. This week’s Canada Blooms festival features a 9,000 square foot display of more than 4,000 kalanchoe plants and many other trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials. The Landscape Ontario event is scheduled to be held at the Direct Energy Centre in Toronto, ON during March Break week.
